Before following a career as a director, Jose Gaspar attended a course in Physics at USP (University of São Paulo) and worked for the Artificial Intelligence Laboratory in Polytechnic School, where he studied Neural Nets and Robotics.

He has directed several short movies, music videos, documentaries, TV commercials and TV shows. His latest short movie, "The Legend of the Story Teller", was filmed with the financial support of Rubem Braga´s Law, and it won the jury´s first prize in "Barra Short Film Festival" in 2005.

In 2004, "Gothic" was nominated to the Best Foreign Film in AVN Awards, in Las Vegas.

In 2008, he won in Berlin the Sign Award as Best Director.

Based in São Paulo, Brazil, he is considered one of the most important Brazilian young directors.

He is working now on a screenplay of his first feature film.
